ESCAPE AT FIRES CREEK

Welcome to the wilds
where woodpeckers,
hemlocks and river birch
remember me,
where trout lily, trillium,
and dwarf iris
take my breath away,
where I hop across
mossy creek bed rocks,
then lie down
on a cold boulder
and watch Leatherwood Falls
race down the mountain
all evening long.

  1. What a great, relaxing piece of work, “Escape at Fires Creek.” I enjoyed both the poems very much.

  3. Mary,
I have always loved this poem. I like very much the beautiful imagery about nature. I like Fires Creek, too. It’s a beautiful place.

  4. I really like this poem a lot. I love Fires Creek, the water is cold, a place I go to in summer.
