Bleak Outlook, by Dennis Lovelace

BLEAK OUTLOOK

Sitting safely on my enclosed back porch
Hermetically sealed with ultraviolet
Filtered protective glass, watching
Blood red sun sinking, distorted
By haze and shimmering heat waves

Staring out over the desolate landscape
Arid land, brittle, hard and cracked
From lack of moisture, vegetation,
Stunted, twisted, dried and leafless
Burnt brown and dying

Global warming, no such thing, they said
Ozone level depletion, acid rain, pollution
No problem, we’ll take care of it
Hell of a way to learn the difference
Between conservative and conservationist
