April Griffin, I Don’t Care What Daddy Says

April Griffin
I DON’T CARE WHAT DADDY SAYS

Daddy says
You ain’t got a lick of since
“Mouth of the South”
He calls me

Daddy’s got
Nicknames for me
Bertha Butt and Thunder Thighs
Amelia Airhead

Daddy says
Little ladies don’t play sports
They wear pretty dresses
Sing in the choir

Daddy says
I can’t cut my hair
He likes it long
Can’t wear makeup
That’s for trashy girls

Daddy says
Nice young ladies don’t kiss boys
Or hold their hands
An’ ain’t no daughter of his
Gonna date no colored boys

Daddy says
Keep your mouth shut
Let people think you stupid
Don’t open your mouth
Prove ‘hem right
